FCLC Group is a Proud Sponsor of the Mind, Body and Soul Surfing Club’s 4th Annual Recovery Run

On November 3, 2018, the Mind Body & Soul Surfing Club will host the 4th Annual Recovery Run 5K and 10K run/walk at Harbor Park in Baldwin Park. Proceeds from the event directly benefit the recovery community in Central Florida.

According to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, in 2016, there were more than 5,700 opioid-related deaths in the state of Florida. That number doesn’t include people who died with other illegal drugs or alcohol in their systems. Addiction is a very serious problem facing our community. In 2017, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration reported approximately 19.7 million Americans had a substance use disorder in the past year.

About

The Recovery Run is dedicated to raising money for Turning Point of Central Florida Inc. Turning Point is a 501(c)3 organization that is instrumental in providing quality substance abuse treatment options in Central Florida. Turning Point has been in operation for more than 20 years and offers programs that are tailored to each individual. Since inception, the organization has served thousands of people by providing affordable treatment programs.

The Recovery Run has a direct impact on helping people in recovery. Last year’s run raised $11,000 for Turning Point, money that goes towards outpatient treatment programs, family support programs, and relapse prevention. It’s anticipated this year’s run will be even bigger.

Addiction is a matter of life or death and it doesn’t discriminate. My son relapsed, overdosed on drugs and died after a year and a half in recovery,” said FCLC Group attorney John Foster, who is one of the Mind, Body and Soul Surfing Club founders. “Just about everyone is affected or knows of someone affected by drug or alcohol addiction. While death is the reality of addiction, life is the reality of recovery. We can make a difference one person at a time.
